Methodology
Last updated Nov 4, 2026
The composite ranking exists because no single MBA ranking is reliable on its own. Each publisher weights different things, such as salary, research, alumni surveys or recruiter opinion, and schools move several places from year to year for reasons that have little to do with the program. Averaging four independent lists smooths out those swings.
The composite rank
- For each school we record its position in the latest edition of four rankings: U.S. News, Financial Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, QS.
- We average the positions the school holds. A school listed in three of the four rankings is scored on those three.
- Schools are sorted by that average. Ties are broken by the U.S. News position, then alphabetically.
- A school must appear in at least two lists to receive a composite rank. Currently 25 of 25 profiled schools are ranked.
We use rank positions only. We do not use, reproduce or re-weight any publisher's underlying scores, and each publisher's methodology remains its own. Positions are cited with attribution on every page where they appear.

Notes: Sources: US News via Clear Admit report (publisher blocked/unchecked); FT via find-mba.com and Clear Admit (aggregators; FT.com not fetched; Clear Admit dates release Feb 15, GMAC/FT Feb 16); Bloomberg via Poets&Quants (top ranks) and find-mba.com aggregator (ranks 12+ not independently verified against Bloomberg); QS ranks for top ~18 via cracku.in and mbagradschools.com (topmba.com returned 403). US News ties recorded as tied position (Harvard/Kellogg 4, Columbia/NYU 7, Yale/Darden 11, Tepper/Owen 16, UCLA/McCombs 18, UNC/Kelley 21); Georgetown 31 from article text. Some US News values (Tuck 9, Berkeley 10, Cornell 15, Foster 20) came from a summarized table and should be spot-checked. FT: Stanford not ranked (article says absent); Columbia not ranked (did not meet alumni survey threshold); Indiana Kelley not in FT top 100 pages checked. QS null: could not verify positions below the top 20 (Tuck, Ross, Fuqua, Darden, Cornell, Tepper, McCombs, UNC, Emory, USC, Georgetown, Foster, Kelley, Owen) because topmba.com/topuniversities/qs.com blocked fetching.
Known limits
- The Financial Times and QS lists are global, so a US school's position there reflects competition with European and Asian programs. We use the global position as published.
- Some schools decline to participate in a given ranking or fall outside the portion of a list we could verify. Those positions are shown as a dash and excluded from the average, which can flatter or penalise a school slightly.
- Rankings are published at different times of year, so the composite mixes editions up to a year apart.
School data
Every admissions, cost and outcome figure on a school profile is read from an official page published by that school: its class profile, employment report, tuition or financial aid page, or application deadlines page. Each profile lists the URLs used and the date we read them. We do not estimate missing values and we do not take figures from third-party aggregators.
- Acceptance rate is shown only when the school publishes applications and admits (or enough to compute it). Several top schools publish applications but not admits.
- GMAT is the median where published, otherwise the average. Scores on the GMAT Focus Edition scale (205–805) are labelled and are not compared with classic scores (200–800).
- Tuition is the annual figure the school publishes. For public universities we note whether it is the resident or non-resident rate.
- Salary is the median base salary from the employment report, excluding signing bonuses and other compensation.
- Employed at three months follows each school's own definition (offers received or offers accepted), which we note where the report says.
Updates and corrections
Data is refreshed each admissions cycle and when a school publishes a new report. If you believe a figure is wrong, contact us with the official source and we will correct it.
